The Nine Commandments for the Blood Donor

  1. The donor should not be suffering from anemia, asthma, allergy, blood disorders, cancer, convulsions, cardiac problems, diabetes, fever, hemophilia, jaundice, kidney disorder, malaria, tuberculosis and viral infection and he should not be an alcoholic.
  2. The donor should not have had blood transfusion for one year prior to blood donation.
  3. The donor should not have donated blood for three months.
  4. The donor should not have undergone immunization in the preceding month.
  5. The donor should not have undergone a major surgery in the preceding six months.
  6. The donor should not have had pregnancy, delivery or abortion in the preceding six months.
  7. The donor should not have had a history of recent weight loss.
  8. The donor should not have a tooth extraction in the preceding two weeks.
  9. The donor will be required to furnish a history of drugs taken during the preceding 72 hours and sexual contact, if any, involving single, multiple, sex workers, homosexual or bisexual partners.
